Wedding dress lost in Hurricane Sandy recovered nearly 2 years later

For nearly two years, Nicole Pagliaro kept the dry-cleaning ticket in her purse, thinking of it as a memento of a wedding dress she would never see again due to the destruction of Hurricane Sandy.
Earlier this month, the ticket became a symbol of a hope rewarded when she found the dress shortly before her second wedding anniversary. In 2012, Pagliaro had taken it to a dry cleaner near her home in Staten Island, New York, that was later destroyed by the storm. About two weeks ago, she randomly stumbled upon it at the dry cleaner's new location.

"It was a surreal feeling,'' Pagliaro told TODAY.com. "You think you lost something and you hold on to hope. I was like, 'Can I try it on to see if it still fits?' It was a great feeling."
The dress that Nicole Pagliaro wore to her reception after marrying her husband, Michael, in 2012 has been recovered after she thought it had been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
The dress that Nicole Pagliaro wore to her reception after marrying her husband, Michael, in 2012 has been recovered after she thought it had been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.
Pagliaro, 30, wore a 41-year-old dress belonging to her aunt for her wedding ceremony with her husband, Michael, 34, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on July 29, 2012. For the reception, she wore "more of a sexy, party-type dress" to hit the dance floor in. A few days after the wedding, she returned her aunt's dress, and then around Aug. 25, she took her other dress to South Beach Dry Cleaners in Staten Island to be cleaned and boxed. Owner Hector Pacheco told her it would be ready in about three weeks to a month.
During that time, Pagliaro and her husband were also moving to a new apartment and she was pregnant with the couple's daughter, Mia Grace, who is now 18 months old. Shortly after the couple moved and unpacked, Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast, flooding the dry cleaner holding her dress with five feet of water. Her husband went to help friends in South Beach and noted how all the stores were destroyed, including the dry cleaner, which left Pagliaro in tears. However, unbeknownst to her, Pagliaro's dress had survived by floating in its secure box.
"I had made my peace with it being gone, but I kept holding on to that ticket,'' Pagliaro said. "Every time I switched out my purse, I wondered if I should throw it out, but I thought, let me keep it because it's the only remembrance of the dress other than the pictures. I just held onto it more for sentimental value."
Pagliaro's parents also had their home in the Eltingville neighborhood of Staten Island wrecked by the storm, as eight feet of water poured in. All of the gifts and mementos from Pagliaro's baby shower were destroyed in the process, removing more memories from the time around her wedding.
Meanwhile, Pacheco relocated to a new store in the Arrochar section of Staten Island in February. Earlier this month, Michael was driving Nicole to her nursing job when they stopped at a traffic light and she noticed a wedding dress in the window of a store.
"I saw the dress, and I knew it was mine,'' she said. "You could only see the top of the dress because of the lettering on the window, but I told my husband, 'I know it's mine.' He said there was no way, that (the previous store) was all gone, but told me we could come the next day and check it out."
Pagliaro went in the store the following day and explained her story to the woman at the counter. As she was walking out, Pacheco was walking in, and he grabbed her in a big hug.
"He said people had told him to throw it out and others wanted to buy it, but he kept thinking, 'She's going to find it, so I want to put it in the window,''' Pacheco said.
Pacheco had displayed it in the window, hoping she would see it. He was unaware the couple had moved and had thought they might see it while walking their dog. She jokingly offered Pacheco to redeem her ticket after holding onto it for so long. Pagliaro now hopes her daughter can wear the dress one day.
"Your wedding is only six hours long, but it's a lifetime of memories,'' Pagliaro said. "I was just twirling the dress when I saw it, and I had the baby touching it. It was amazing."
Pagliaro doesn't have the dress back in her possession yet. It has received so much attention at the store from those who have heard Pagliaro's story that Pacheco hasn't had a chance to put it together yet for her to pick up.

"He said, 'You waited this long, what's another week?''' Pagliaro said before laughing.

Prince George looks cute as a button in the official family portrait released in honor of his birthday — but it was Kate’s stellar style, (and her recycling ways!), that totally captivated us! Do you agree?

While we are still swooning over the cutest prince we’ve ever known, we can’t take our eyes off of his beautiful mother in the official family portraits. Sure, we know the celebration is all about Prince George, but it’s hard to rival the beauty of the Duchess of Cambridge! Kate’s floral frock was the perfect outfit to wear while accompanying Prince William and their baby boy at the ‘Sensational Butterfly’ exhibit on July 2, 2014 — and in true Kate fashion it wasn’t the first time she rocked her $717 frock.
Kate Middleton Dress
Kate Middleton’s Dress In Prince George’s Official Portrait:
The royal recycler is at it again! Kate donned a silk tea-length dress for a family portrait in honor of Prince George’s first birthday. She’s practical and stylish, and we can’t get enough of her look! Though Kate was the one sporting the emerald hue, she had us all green with envy! The duchess looked flawless in the 1930s inspired frock that featured cap sleeves and gathering under the bust. The SUZANNAH “Budding Heart Silk Tea Dress” flowed slightly past her knee and was speckled with a white blossom print.
Look familiar? Kate also wore the dress just a few months ago as she stepped off of a flight to New Zealand on April 12, 2014, while on the Royal Tour. In Australia, she paired the frock with a green peacoat and black pumps. She clearly loves the color, and it looks lovely on her… but then again, what doesn’t?
Sometimes a dress is too great to wear just once! We love Kate’s outfit-repeating ways, and we look forward to seeing more in the future.

Take it from Kate and don’t be afraid to rock your favorite pieces time and time again! VOTE and let us know what you think of the royal recycler’s look!

Tamara Ecclestone wears tight mini dress

She has one impressive wardrobe and socialite Tamara Ecclestone impressed once again with the tight bodycon number she slipped into to dine out on Wednesday night.
The 30-year-old mother-of-one looked incredible in the skimpy dress which had a golden chain detail on the skirt section, as she headed to Scott's restaurant in London's Mayfair.
Paying close attention to detail, the daughter of Formula 1 team owner Bernie Ecclestone wore matching shoes, choosing a gold mesh pair by Christian Louboutin.

The see-through shoes showed off her perfectly pedicured toes which were a shade of red.
Tamara sat outside the restaurant with a couple of girl pals - she is rarely seen without her husband Jay Rutland on her arm.
Tamara made sure she was around to do the important things for her precious daughter, Sophia, and gave her a bath earlier in the evening.
How does she do it? The leggy lady has been showing off a super slim post-pregnancy body after giving birth to daughter Sophia in March
Clearly enamoured with her four-month-old tot, the pretty brunette posted a picture of a bottle of Love Boo conditioner which is specifically made for children, writing: 'Our favourite time of day.'
She also encouraged her fans to do their bit for charity, offering up one of her Emilio Pucci dresses up for auction in order to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
Tamara regularly donates her dresses for the Tamara Gives Back campaign and the black mesh mini dress will no doubt attract interest from her fans.
Meanwhile, Ecclestone's ex-boyfriend Omar Khyami, 40, has been charged with theft after police
probed claims he stole her jewellery.
Khyami will appear before magistrates next week accused of taking valuables from the multi-millionaire heiress.
The businessman, whose two-and-a-half year relationship with the wealthy socialite ended in acrimony in 2012, was arrested last month.
According to Miss Ecclestone, 30, the allegedly stolen items were given to her by her billionaire father Bernie.
Mr Khyami, who lives in a flat overlooking London’s Hyde Park, blamed the row over the jewellery on a misunderstanding.
He said police questioned him over a ‘small piece’ of jewellery worth up to £8,000, but declined to say what it was.

Speaking after his arrest, he said: ‘I don’t want to hurt her. Its two years since we’ve been together and I don’t know what she wants.’

Rihanna Celebrates The World Cup In Sizzling Mini Dress

Rihanna wowed us all in an off-the-shoulder, Alexander Wang LBD at the Budweiser Hotel in Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro — we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the big night! Do you agree?
Our favorite bad gal was spotted wearing this Alexander Wang off-the-shoulder dress after the World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina, where Germany took home the coveted trophy. Rihanna showed off her sexy figure wearing this hot, hot dress in Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 13. We literally loved her overall ensemble…from her crazy beach waves to her faux crystal nose ring that she rocked with bright red lips, we can’t get enough of it!
Rihanna’s World Cup Dress:
Rihanna never ceases to amaze us in exotic and diverse ensembles. Although this Alexander Wang LBD wasn’t the craziest RiRi ensemble we’ve seen, she definitely made the outfit POP by pairing the sexy dress with a bold nose ring and a colorful pair of pumps! What’s your take on Rihanna’s faux nose ring — did you think it was a bit too much or funky and fab?
Rihanna totally appeared chic and in-style at an event held at the Budweiser Hotel in Copacabana Beach! We loved how the dress was simple and classy. RiRi totally sparked up the ensemble with her red lips, loose sexy curls, natural makeup and a killer faux NOSE RING. An embellished faux nose ring is definitely a statement piece we have not seen many celebs rock on the red carpet — but of course she managed to pull it off. We love Rihanna’s daring style and willingness to express herself.
We’ve got to give it to RiRi, not everyone can rock a crazy nose ring and make it look super chic. Whether you like this look or not, Rihanna still looks absolutely fabulous in the LBD and colorful sandals.
Rihanna Goes Wild For The World Cup:

Later that night, Rihanna was spotted celebrating Germany’s win andpartying with all of the players on team Germany. Rihanna posted a pic to her Twitter account where she is partying withMario Götze, (the young player who scored the amazing 1-0 win against Argentina), still sporting the red lips and nose ring holding up the gold world up! Go, RiRi, Go!

Women See Other Gals Dressed in Red as Sexual Threat, Study Finds

PHOTO: Woman perceive other women wearing red as sexual threats, a new study found.
So that lady in red stirs up passion in men -- “dancing with me, cheek to cheek ... the beauty by my side,” as the Chris DeBurgh song goes.
But how does her dress color affect the women around her? A recent study from the University of Rochester with collaborators from Trnava University in Slovakia and the Slovak Academy of Sciences say not so positively.
In fact, it makes them fiercely guard their man.
A study, published today in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, finds that female onlookers, when shown photos of another woman wearing red, jumped to the conclusion that she would be a sexual threat.
In the study, researchers did three experiments, showing female subjects photos of other women dressed in red and in white dresses, and then in red versus green shirts. They hypothesized that the color red would be a “sexual receptivity cue and that this perception would be accompanied by rival derogation and intentions to mate-guard," according to the study.
“We tend to take color for granted,” said the study's lead author Adam Pazda, a graduate student from the University of Rochester. “It’s not just a pretty thing in our environment that adds to the aesthetic experience in the world. Behind the scenes, it can affect us psychologically in the way we perceive others or ourselves.”
“It helps us make sense of other people’s behavior when women are out in red and they are getting the cold shoulder from other women," he told ABC News. "Maybe they are giving off the perception of a romantic competitor."
Pazda said the study “essentially replicated” a 2008 study on male subjects that found men perceive the color red on a woman to be a “signal of sexual receptivity.”
Researchers did three experiments on several hundred women, using a photo of a woman in a dress that was Photoshopped in white and red, then an image of a woman in a green versus a red shirt. In all photos, the face was blurred out.
“Everything was identical, except for the color,” Pazda said.
In the first, they asked the study participants, “How interested in sex is she?” and “How seductive is she?” More women said the woman in the red dress was “more open to sexual encounters" than the one in white. They responded along a “sliding scale” from "No, not at all" to "Yes, definitely."
In the second experiment, researchers wanted to see if women would “derogate” or make negative comments about the woman in red.
“We asked about two subjects, sexual fidelity and how faithful a woman is, and their financial resources -- how much money they had and if they drive a nice car,” Pazda said.
Participants again made more derogatory comments toward the woman in the red dress.
In the third part of the study, the color was switched from white to green, to rule out perceptions about virginity and purity normally associated with the color white. The woman in the photo was wearing a shirt, not a dress. Researchers also only questioned study participants who were currently involved in romantic relationships.
“We asked how likely they would be to introduce their boyfriend, and these women were reluctant to leave a man alone with a woman in a red shirt,” he said.
But several women interviewed by ABC News who were not study subjects drew more positive conclusions as to how the color red is perceived.
Amy Wolfe, 35, of Berkshire, Massachusetts, says that for her, red suggests “confidence.”
Hillary Mains, 32, from Pepperell, Massachusetts, agrees that “red definitely evokes someone who wants to be seen -- confidence and pride.”
“Va va va voom,” is the phrase that 54-year-old New Yorker Amy Spiegel uses.
“There's lots of science about red as a sexual lure in primates and human beings, which is doubtless where the ‘scarlet’ woman comes from and Bette Davis wearing red as a virgin in ‘Jezebel,’” said Peg Streep, an author who writes about psychological research.
"In the movie 'Pretty Woman,' they played on that because Julia Roberts is in red when she's a 'lady' at the opera, not a whore."
“I think red signals confidence and, yes, the statement ‘I can play this game’ and ‘look at me,’" she said. “The older I get, the more red I wear, meaning ‘don't count me out!’"
But researcher Pazda said the study results can “help us learn about ourselves.”

“Men think red is attractive and sexually receptive,” he said. “You might think twice about wearing red to send off the wrong vibes. ... If you are wearing red out and about, you might be perceived negatively by other women. It won’t happen in every situation, but be aware of the signals to other women and men that you’re interested in sex.”

Wrap yourself in a wrap dress

Dear Marylou: It's easy to find separates in two different sizes (I'm a 10 on top and 12 from the waist down) but I cannot find a one-piece dress to accommodate my figure. They either have skirts that are too narrow or skirts so full I look like a little girl. Any ideas? -- J.S.J., Newark, New Jersey.
Dear J.S.J.: Wrap yourself in a wrap dress like Edoardo Mantelli's design for Tocca illustrated here. It should be ideal for your figure as the skirt eases over the hips into a gentle fullness, rather than puffing out in the little-girl gathers associated with the petticoated '50s.
Historically, the wrap dress could be traced to the kimono, dating to the Fifth Century. Designer Diane von Furstenberg became famous for her iconic wrap dress, which merited the cover of Newsweek in 1976. She continues to feature many versions as the wrap dress becomes the go-to CEO dress of the year.
Dear Marylou: In his verbal fashion analysis on the New York Times website, Bill Cunningham says we are in the midst of another peacock revolution for men. Do you agree? -- H.H., Kent, Ohio.
Dear H.H.: I agree about man-as-peacock as accounted by Cunningham, but I believe that this is just one of many "revolutions." In Alex Badia's WWD account of new menswear influences, this expert sees the man of tomorrow in the midst of a "Bohemian Rhapsody" of disheveled elegance. The two seemingly contrasting poles are typical of the either/or options in today's fashion.
Dear Marylou: As a design student, I'm trying to track down the latest developments in fabric sustainability. What's the latest eco-worthy news? -- M.N., Staten Island, New York.
Dear M.N.: Invista, one of the world's largest producers of Lycra spandex and other fibers, announced in May that it has developed a new spandex fiber that includes "a renewable source made from dextrose derived from corn that makes up 70 percent of the weight of the fiber." That's the word from Arnaud Tandonnet, Invista Apparel's global sustainability director, who explains that dextrose replaces the polyurethane in the fiber, making it a more sustainable product.
For more background, you might want to check out planetagenda.com, which is dedicated to technologies and materials that minimize the environmental footprint of fabric, and apparelcoalition.org, aka the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.
Dear Marylou: What kind of blouse should I wear to dress up my black wool suit? -- E.V., Battle Creek, Michigan.

Dear E.V.: If your suit's neckline allows, forget a blouse and wear your suit with a big bib necklace. Or choose a red satin T-shirt or one printed in whatever motif strikes your fancy. Or tie-on one of your favorite scarfs and wear as a strapless top. Or create a halter top by knotting two scarfs at the back of the neck—the more contrasting the better.

Want Your Teens to Dress Modestly

Could dressing modestly become the new trend in teen fashion? One Charlotte, North Carolina, woman believes so.
When 18-year-old Kendall Jenner arrived at the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards, many people were shocked by the model’s revealing dress with high slits that exposed her pelvic bones.
As stars like Selena Gomez and Rashida Jones have spoken out against the need to be sexy, Shari Braendel is also questioning why society finds young scantily-clad stars normal.
With her character-based program, Reveal Your Dignity, Braendel is trying to change that by empowering young women with fashion industry training.
PHOTO: Young women model Reveal Your Dignitys junior fashion stylist kit with the kits designer, Constance Franklin, from Atlanta, Georgia.
“We are going to flip the fashion industry right side up to have these girls understand that they don’t have to dress this way,” Braendel told ABC News today. “They are beautiful, creative and fabulous without showing their bodies.”
The fashion industry veteran decided to start Reveal Your Dignity, which kicks off its first training session Aug. 2, 2014, in Charlotte, after traveling and speaking about fashion at Christian women’s conferences.
“I was at the mall one day and thought, ‘Why are these girl dressing this way with very little clothes on, revealing their bodies?’” Braendel. “What if I could train up some young women who have a love for fashion?”
For $279, teens can attend a 5-hour session with fashion educators and 10 months of follow-up online training. The program trains young high school girls to become junior stylists, with skill sets that include how to dress appropriately for their body type and how to compliment and encourage young girls they might one day become role models for.
"My whole concept in this is to help girls understand that what they wear shows others what they are," Braendel said.
One of the main lessons of the program is how to dress “lovely. If you dress sexy, you’re going to attract sex. If you dress lovely, you’re going to attract love,” said Braendel.
To look lovely, according to Braendel, girls should have no bra straps or busts exposed. Clothing shouldn’t be too tight, and “bottom booty exposure” is discouraged, she said.
Seventeen-year-old Mattie McGinnis said her style has changed since joining the program.
“Everyone’s super into the crop tops and high-waisted shorts,” the Charlotte teen told ABC News. “I’m able to incorporate that style but incorporate it modestly. I don’t look like I’m showing off all this skin.”
McGinnis said that her friends are also interested in learning how to look stylish but in a modest way.
“You think you have to show your skin, and you think you have to dress a certain way,” she said. “You learn that you don’t have to show all that skin.”
Braendel isn't sure how many girls will sign up for the first Reveal Your Dignity session, but she is hopeful that her program will change fashion industry standards and the way young women think about fashion.
"I know there are girls sitting at their houses right now, who have a love for fashion and don’t know what to do about it," Braendel said.

"I want to show them that they’re worthy and that they’re valuable. They don’t have to go out half-dressed."

Jessica Simpson’s Wedding Dress Flashback

You've heard that old adage: Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
Not true for Jessica Simpson, though. The 33-year-old's wedding to fiancée Eric Johnsonis juuust around the corner, and she is a true master bridesmaid, having been in a ton of her friends' weddings.
Seriously, Jessica must have danced to the song "Shout" a zillion times. She completely deserves a medal for outstanding role as a member of the wedding party.
So let's take a look back at all the times she slipped into a bridesmaid dress, shall we?
Back in 2004 Jessica donned a pale pink bridesmaid dress with a matching fur stole for her friend Jennifer MacFarlane's wedding.
NEWS: Jessica Simpson looks gorgeous in sexy new fragrance ad
She had a break for a while there, but in 2012 she was in a flurry of weddings, starting with her friend Lauren Zelman's in March 2012. A very pregnant Jessica walked down the aisle in Palm Springs wearing a printed pink halter-style bridesmaid dress.
And when her best friend and former assistant CaCee Cobb married Scrubs actor Donald Faison in December of 2012, Jessica wore a black floor-length gown for the occasion—and she was escorted down the aisle by groomsman Zach Braff.
Even when she was pregnant with her second child, Ace, Jessica still had bridesmaid duties. She showed off her impressive baby bump in a black long-sleeved dress during her friend Kathryn Sykora's wedding in June 2013.
And just last October Jessica donned a navy blue chiffon gown for her friend Lauren Auslander's autumn wedding in Rhode Island.
Jessica Simpson, Wedding
But now Jessica can hang up her bridesmaid dresses for a while, because it's her wedding that's on the horizon. Remember the gown she wore to wed Nick Lachey?
Let's go way, way, way back to the early aughts.
The year is 2002 and a 22-years-old Jessica walked down the aisle in Austin, Texas, wearing a gorgeous, custom-made Vera Wang gown accessorized with an 11-carat Harry Winston diamond headband attached to her veil.
Her look was traditional, romantic and ultra-feminine. Because Jessica went for a full-skirted, princess-style dress before, it's possible that she'll go for something more modern and bodycon this time—especially since she's looking especially fit these days.
Jessica Simpson
It seems like every time Jessica is photographed she's looking slimmer and fitter than ever. Most notably, she's been flaunting some insanely toned legs that have us wondering if she'll buck the trend and go for a short wedding gown just to show 'em off.
Either way, it's clear that Jessica's months of rigorous workouts are going to payoff in a big way very, very soon.

What do you think: Which of her bridesmaids looks was your favorite? Sound off in the comments.
