Designer Isaac Mizrahi Does Not See Amal Clooney As A Fashion Icon, Says She's 'Good Looking' But 'Really Tactful'

Amidst New York’s fashion elites fawning over Amal Clooney’s outfits making a mark in the fashion scene, one particular tastemaker does not seem to find her dressmaking schemes captivating. American fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi admitted that although Amal always looked good, he does not see her as a ground-breaking fashion icon.
In an interview with Threads Magazine, the “Project Runway: All Stars” judge was asked if George Clooney’s wife could be considered as NYC’s latest fashion icon, given that the 37-year-old has been spotted strutting in high-fashion clothes that many found chic and stylish. “No, I don’t think so. Absolutely not,” he answered, as quoted by New York Post. “Good-looking, but that’s where it ends.”

Mizrahi, creative director of Xcel Brands, admitted that the Lebanese-British lawyer did look great all the time, although she also looked “really tactful.” He kindly added that while he does not see her as fashion icon, he finds her “extremely beautiful,” which for him was probably better than being placed on a pedestal for what she wears.
Artist Mark Boomershine also had something to say about Clooney’s wife as he dished details to Threads about his upcoming exhibit “Revealed: Faces of Our Time” at the Surrey hotel. The exhibit will be featuring 10 iconic portraits of A-list celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Christy Turlington. Boomersine shared that Amal was one of the stars he rejected, saying, “She’s absolutely beautiful and everything, but there wasn’t as much there for me as some of the other people.”
Meanwhile, Mirror reported that 53-year-old George and Amal are officially eligible for the “Sunday Times Rich List” after they tied the knot last year. With a joint wealth of £121 million including a £10 million mansion in Sonning, Berks, the couple has joined the ranks of Britain’s richest, placing themselves at number 790 out of the 1,000 wealthiest people in Britain and Ireland. Other celebrity couples who made the list include David and Victoria Beckham, and Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Gigi Hadid has amazing style, whether she’s on or off of the runway, and she reminded us, once again, with her boho chic look at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on April 11. Gigi Hadid’s White Dress At Coachella — SHOP Her Versatile Look:
No shoes? No problem! Gigi kept it carefree and went barefoot at Coachella, and she still managed to be one our favorite style muses.
Gigi was a boho goddess in the Guess Beckette Half-Sleeve High-Slit Top. She got creative and cut the sleeves off, transforming the flowing shirt into a long tank, and she rocked it with a white bodysuit — allowing it to pass for a dress. Genius, Gigi!
She added some structure to her look with a thick brown leather belt, and she piled on layered necklaces to play up the boho vibes. Gigi completed her look with a fun patterned headwrap. The model, (and face of the line!), took to Instagram to share her versatile new look — and we can’t get enough of it.
Gigi Hadid’s Coachella Outfit: How YOU Can Wear Her Look 2 Ways
We absolutely love what Gigi did to her Guess top, but there are plenty of way to wear it!
Keep the sleeves and style it with a pair of denim shorts and your favorite gladiator sandals, or you can also make it chic enough for evening time by pairing with leather leggings and pumps. We also love this top as a bathing suit coverup — and the list goes on and on! Want to wear it like a daring dress, just like Gigi? We recommend wearing it over a bodsuit or a slip if you want to recreate the look. Throw on flat sandals and the effortless, casual vibe is perfect for a summer day.
Gigi was one to watch at the music festival. When she wasn’t flaunting her fabulous fashion, she was cozying up to her boyfriend, Cody Simpson — could these two get any cuter? We spotted Gigi looking on as Cody performed at the McDonald’s & Chevrolet Pool Party at the Bootsy Bellows Estate, where she rocked shorts and a fringe top.
We’re clearly into Gigi’s style, (especially at Coachella), and can’t get enough of her resourceful look. Can you?

Scarlett O’Hara’s Gone with the Wind Dress Sold At Auction For $137,000

Scarlett O’Hara’s gown just sold for enough money to buy herself some new curtains. The grey-and-black dress, worn by Vivien Leigh in her role as the Southern heroine in Gone with the Wind, sold for $137,000 at an auction in Beverly Hills on Saturday.
The outfit, which O’Hara wore in four scenes from the 1939 film, features distinctive black zig-zag appliques along the front placard and sleeves. The gown was fittingly the belle of the ball at the auction of more than 150 items from the Oscar-winning film by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.
The items up for sale were part of the private collection of James Tumblin, who was formerly in charge of the hair and makeup department at Universal Studios. His collection started in the 1960s, when he was doing research at a costume company. “I saw this dress on the floor and a docent told me not to bother to pick it up, because they were throwing it away,” he said, according to The Telegraph. “I asked if he would sell it to me. I had noticed there was a printed label saying Selznick International Pictures and ‘Scarlett production dress’ was written in ink.” The cost? $20.
From there, Tumblin began stockpiling Gone With the Wind memorabilia, slowly amassing a treasure trove of faux antebellum souvenirs, including props, tools and costumes used in the making of the movie. He also collected drawings, paintings, posters and letters belonging or related to people involved with the film. While Tumblin sold 150 pieces from his trove on Saturday, according to Heritage Auction, there is a lot more where that came from as the collection houses more than 300,000 pieces of Gone With The Windmemorabilia.
Other top selling items from the auction were a suit worn by Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, which sold for $55,000; a black bonnet worn by both Leigh and Olivia De Havilland as Melanie Wilkes, which fetched $30,000; and a straw hat worn by Leigh that sold for $52,500, according to Reuters.
The big-screen adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s bestseller was directed by Victor Fleming and also starred Leslie Howard and Hattie McDaniel. It won ten Oscars, including the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Leigh, and Best Supporting Actress for McDaniel.

Mother, daughter outfits perfect for Point-to-Point

Winterthur's 37th annual Point-to-Point steeplechase race is barreling toward us.
And two people who have spent a lot of time thinking about how to dress for that outdoor event, which will be May 3, are race director Jill Abbott of Centreville, and her daughter, Mikki, who at the age of 13 is a lifelong attendee.
Jill's tips for picking an outfit for the event, which can be hot or cold, dry or rainy, or some of all of that in one day, include wearing hats, sunglasses and sunblock. She says she's seen a lot of Monday morning raccoon eyes from people who forgot their sunblock, or forgot to re-apply during the day.
She also recommends that people think about their footwear. Sandals are a great choice for many, but she doesn't like to wear flats and always has some kind of heel. However, heels can play havoc with the grass at Winterthur and be treacherous to walk in unless you choose the right kind of chunky heel or wedge.

"My 'go tos' are Paul Green peep toe with a smaller chunky heal, or Paul Green booties," she says.
She recommends women consider equestrian tailgate chic and wear riding or hunter boots with dresses and hats. They also may want to consider bringing a light sweater or wrap, as well as a wristlet to carry ID and a cell phone.
She suggests men consider wearing khakis with polo shirts or button-down shirts. Tie one on with a bow tie, she says. Plaids are always great, she says.
Here's a look at how Jill and Mikki will dress, and what they think about fashion every day.

I think that fashion – the clothes, jewelry, and shoes you choose – is a great way for people to get to know you."

The gaiety of Bihu

The rich diversity of Assam was showcased by local fashion designer at a recently concluded festival in Guwahati
In an attempt to make Assam a sought after fashion destination , experienced as well as emerging designers from the State presented their collections at the first edition of “Rongali Celebrating the Essence of Assam”, a three-day event, celebrated on the sprawling Veterinary Ground in Guwahati.
They made use of hand woven fabric, motifs and jewellery of indigenous tribes and gave them a contemporary twist. Bearing in mind that their State is blessed with diversity, the participating designers made use of fabric, accessories of tribes like Meishing, Kabi, Bodo, Rabha and Tiwa. The idea was to feature different tribal traditions which non-Assamese are unaware of. Therefore, they used the traditional methodology in preparing elaborate headgears and shimmering jewelleries.
Mehzabin Ershad (centre) while presenting her collection
This time round, Garima Saikia Garg, who despite being a reputed designer deviated from her usual practice of presenting ethnic fusion of the North East and focussed only on Assam. As the Bihu festivities are on full swing she created her outfits to showcase to the rest of the world that her State has the potential to emerge as a fashion hub.
“Mostly, I work on ethnic fusions since North East is so rich with over hundred tribes and their untouched colour theme, motifs, designs and fabrics are incomparably beautiful.” For this festival, she scouted around the countryside and obtained fabric from indigenous tribes like Singpho, Khampi, Tai-Phake and then worked on them in a manner to suit contemporary taste.
In the spring summer collection, Garmia emphasised more on bride’s colourfully embellished attires. “This was necessary keeping in mind that our New Year is round the corner and it is also the wedding season. I used silk and other ethnic fabrics and then amalgamated them with other materials to give outfits an Assamese touch. They were silhouetted for global acceptance,” says the designer, who also dabbles into acting and her latest film The Maya Tape is going to release soon. Garima also showcased the traditional dry flowers which are prepared by each tribe in a different avatar.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the event was the much anticipated fashion show presented by Mehzabin Ershad, the State’s most eminent designer. She made a fashion statement by displaying that mekhela chadar in not just the ubiquitous white .
Justifying her decision, Mehzabin says, “In weddings of Assamese Muslims and Hindus we make the brides wear identical white mekhela chadar as this colour signifies chastity. But since this was Bihu, I used a range of colours to make the audience feel happy that our New Year is fast approaching.”
She made models wear jewellery with traditional motifs to highlight the scenic beauty of Assam’s countryside, its rainforest and flora and fauna.
Designer Kunatala Goswami used headgear and jewellery of her State but made the statuesque models wear gowns which were western but jelled well with the accessories.
Speaking about the intricacies involved in her collection, she says, “ We also used zari weaving which is called Guna in Assamese . We took inspiration from the tribal communities and used moga silk. It took us three months to prepare the collection.”
Her co-partner Manimala Mahanto, who designed the outfits, made Amrita Gogoi, showstopper, wear the traditional mekhela (lower portion) chadar (upper portion of dress). She used natural fabric procured from mulberry silk. She made intelligent use of jute to design flower motifs on gowns and frocks.
On the flip side, the models were not the usual professional ones who are required to give deadpan expressions. What was heartening indeed for everyone present there was that they did not walk on the ramp in a perfunctory manner. Effervescence was written all over them as they walked in front of the gathering comprising their parents, siblings and neighbours.
According to Shyamkam Mahanta, festival organiser, he had instructed all designers to promote handloom and jewellery of tribal communities. “The idea was to surprise visitors with our rich diversity in terms of fabrics, accessories and cultural heritage and promote Assam as a sought after fashion destination.”

Jordana Brewster stunned at 'Furious 7' premiere: Get her red carpet look

Although the stars shone brightly for Wednesday night’s "Furious 7" premiere in Los Angeles, there were tears and mixed emotions that followed Vin Diesel’s heartfelt speech in memory of costar and friend Paul Walker. Nevertheless, it is Hollywood, and the show must go on. Stunning in a sheer Valentino dress with plunging neckline and starfish detail was Jordana Brewster, whose hair was styled by Kylee Heath for Matrix. Her guide to recreate “Mia’s” red carpet look is outlined below, with tips to achieve her rich mocha hair color.

Jordana Brewster thanked the team behind her “Furious 7” premiere look on Instagram, captioned by, "#regram felt like a princess in @maisonvalentino @kyleeheathhair @kayleenmcadams." The 34-year-old actress was recently named the new face of POND's, not surprising with her perfect complexion.
Using the new line of Matrix Style Link Products, celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath added texture to Jordana Brewster’s red carpet “Furious 7” premiere look, pinning one side up for a boho-chic feel. Her step-by-step guide is detailed as follows.
Matrix Style Link Volume Booster was applied throughout Jordana Brewster’s entire head, and then a center part was formed. With an Ibiza boar bristle round brush, the actress’ hair was blown dry to add volume, “especially at the crown and to polish the ends.”
Matrix Style Link Height Riser was added to the crown section of the head after the hair was completely dried and just prior to teasing, because according to Kylee, “This product really helps to hold a tease.” Texture was added with a two-inch sized curling iron, “spraying each section lightly with Matrix Style Link Texture Builder before curling for a tussled sexy texture…not straight, but not curly either.”
After the tousled look was achieved, half of the hair was pulled up, section by section, and secured with bobby pins. “A small little twist was created to cover up where the pins were.” Brewster’s style was completed with Matrix Style Link Style Fixer for “hold and shine.”
To simulate Jordana Brewster’s rich mocha hair color seen at the “Furious 7” premiere Wednesday night, Kylee recommends to use Matrix ColorInsider and for added gloss, which is ideal forspring hairstyles, the celebrity hairstylist suggests Colorgraphics Lacquer in Clear. The Matrix professional hair color is only available in salons.
